293/365

Annie 293/365

Lucy 293/365
*Both of these pictures are such typical faces of the girls.

Today I am thankful for getting a whole lotta stuff out of our house. Of course, it is just moved to a storage unit, but at least I don't have to look at it every day. Both girls closets were busting at the seams. It was totally ridiculous. And Lucy has a really big closet and it started to be the home of all kinds of things, not just her clothes. I feel cleansed for the moment, but we still have a lot to do. The good news is, I have switched the girls closets to fall/winter and boxed up everything else. Annie's entire wardrobe for 2010 is already in boxes labeled for spring, summer, fall, and winter. That will be nice when it comes time to change out closets next year. Every time I do this I get embarrassed by the amount of clothing that the girls have. It is way overboard. I packed up a lot of the little stuff that doesn't fit anymore to be given away.

This moves me onto my next point. What is the best way to get rid of all of the really nice little stuff? There are two huge bins of very nice clothes that are gently used that I would love to sell. But I am not sure I want to do the work that would go into that. List it all on Ebay? Craig's List? Consignment? What do I do?? Any suggestions would be great. It is mostly baby stuff. 12 months and smaller.

And finally, I got an anonymous comment today stating that the Matilda Jane clothes looked great on Lucy but they were too old for Annie. That MJ was not for kids still in diapers. It was not a nasty comment at all, but it has rubbed me the wrong way for multiple reasons. First and foremost, if you really didn't think you were crossing a line just a tad, you wouldn't have commented anonymously. I would make it where anonymous commenters weren't allowed, but that is how Lee Lee comments and there is no way I am going to miss out on her comments. Second, you dress your children how you see fit, and I will dress mine how I see fit. The great thing is, we don't all have to do it the same way. And finally, it bothers me when other people tell me how to do things with our children. I would never tell anyone how to dress their kids. I would say, do what makes you and your kids happy. Again, to whoever wrote the comment, I know you weren't trying to be ugly, but you really should think before you tell people how to dress their children. I would probably stick to just dealing with your own.

Totally agree Kelly, wouldn't the world be a much better place if people just worried about themselves? And just for the record, I've never thought anything negative about what your children wear, infact completely the opposite. I had to go back and try to find what this person was even talking about! Still can't..you do a great job :)

My child is 9 months old and she has more clothes than me and my husband combined X4! She has clothes all the way up to 4t!
Little girls' clothing is just too cute.

I love how you dress your girls and I am glad you addressed the comment made about 'how you should or should not dress your daughter(s)'.
That 'blanket of anonymity' is waaay to comfortable for some people.

I think your girls are dressed adorably!

As far as resale, I think eBay is the best, but I don't have time for all the packing and shipping with quick turnaround. I think resale stores don't give you much at all (40% of what they are going to sell it for). I've found the best resale (for me) are the semi-annual sales where you hang, tag, and price your own items. It takes some time, but I can do it on my own time at night or while Grace naps. I don't know of any in Dallas, but I'm sure they have them as I've seen them advertised in San Antonio, Austin, and Houston.

Your girls are always dressed so adorable. And you are so sweet to let people dress just how they feel the most comfortable, and we are very blessed to have experienced that when you took our pictures. Love that you didn't tell me to put anyones shoes back on, roll anybodys pants legs down, you let us do what made us happy with our kiddos, and made us look AWESOME while doing it !!!!

Well Poopsie, as you know, it takes all kinds to make the world go around! As you know, I think that the girls are perfect, dressed exquisitely, and have wonderful parents, and also pretty stinking good grandparents!!! If you will tell me what to click, I can change whatever I'm doing. I don't click anonymous, I click Name/URL. If a person can't address us in person, I'm for blocking out anonymous!!!!

Lovely day! Had lunch with Paula. She has worked herself into severe tiredness. But her new home is awesome!

Hug and kiss the girls for me. I need a costume picture for my frame. hint hint

Love, LeeLee

YAY for you for cleaning out closets. That's one of those dreaded tasks that I avoid. My dd is Annie's age and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE MJ clothes on her....the knot dresses and tank dresses are my favorite. I always love the way that you dress your girls and it's very much my style too.

Man, it feels great to purge and declutter huh? My advice on reselling is either kid2kid if you have one or sell it on gymbofriends.com if you have really nice stuff. You have to buy a membership to sell (and buy) but it's only like $4/month. And it is way WAY easier than ebay. Just post on the forum in the right spot and you're done. There is always great MJ being sold there and other good stuff. I buy most of Addy's wardrobe there.

As for the commenter, I know it isn't really funny but it literally made me bust out laughing. Seriously people - do you not have a life? Why on earth would someone be so judgmental as to spend even a split second composing a message critical of how someone dresses their child in a blog. I think it's a case of jealousy, frankly.

Stacy said...

Well I know I've been totally MIA in commenting for forever, and really do owe you some back comments, but this brought me out of MIA-land. I always think the girls look adorable, and yesterday I actually thought they were a step beyond adorable. I don't get her comment. But hey, I don't get people leaving anonymous critical comments on people's blogs anyway, never have, no matter the topic - if you don't like what you read/see, don't read!

I think Annie looks adorable in her MJ dress! About the clothes selling...my neighbor has three girls and likes to dress them alike, so she NEVER passes clothes down. This works out very well for me, because her youngest daughter is one year older than Katie, so I get first dibs on all her gorgeous hand-me-downs! Whatever I don't buy she takes pics of and sells on ebay. You would not believe the money she makes selling clothes! She tends to sell outfits more than individual items. Good luck

I have always loved the way you dress your kiddos. In fact, it's one (only one) of the reasons I visit your blog. Your girls are SO ADORABLE. I also love to visit your blog because we're thinking about expanding our family of three through international adoption and your blog has truly been an inspiration to our family. Thank you for sharing your stories...your family is beautiful!

All the best,

My daughter is still in diapers and I LOVE her in her MJ outfit!!! In terms of selling clothes, I saw one woman make a blog to sell clothes, in fact, she is a professional photographer...here is her link: http://www.mikabethedwardsphotography.com/#
click on "bebe and beau boutique" Its all her kids' old clothes or clothes from photo shoots. I forget where you are located (I know you mention it alot...but anyway, maybe you know/are near MikaBeth Photography?)

MKH said...

Well I absolutely love the clothes-u dress your girls so cute and they look adorable on them!! Love the pics of the girls in the scouting for a new location for a shoot post!!

I want to see what you have for sale!! Phoebe would probably love to wear lucy and annie's cutie clothes. When you decide where to sell let me know and I will take a looksie.

Kelly,
Well said. People always tell us, "Camdyn should wear more dresses". I often wonder if that is some crack at how she actually dresses, which I think it pretty darn cute. I think your gals are cutie pies. Keep on keeping on!

Woot! You go girl!! I am all for hearing advice and suggestions... when I ASK for it. Twice in the past month I've had some random stranger comment to me about something they don't approve of that I'm doing with my daughter. It irks me big time. I say, "Raise your own kids, and I'll raise mine." - And of course, I think both your girls dress adorably!!

Anonymous said...

Shame shame to anonymous! I have had Elizabeth in MJ since she was 14 months and first came home... if I had a newborn baby I would put MJ on her when she is only a day old if it fit her.

Why do people feel the need to give such strong opinions when these are OUR blogs?

Great job putting it out there in your post tonight... I bet they feel very small right now, as they should.

Kate said...

Nevermind Little Miss Anonymous. Your girls are always sweetly dressed. I've been slowly purchasing MJ clothes for sweet baby and she'll be under a year old when she comes. Which leads me to this...any clothing that you want to sell, send them my way! I'm in need of clothing 12 months and under. Let me know.

KrisJ said...

LMAO guess Im in on the fashion no no cuz Malia was wearing MJ still in diapers LOL!!! I wish that I could buy up those clothes dang it!!! If Malia was younger I would have told you to put them in a box and send me a bill! O well! I think 1 thing you are known for is dressing your girls so adorably that we all drool over their clothes so to whoever wrote that dumb comment HAHAHA jealous! LOL And Kelly I am the same way with my girls clothes.. my friends see their closets and roll their eyes... granted most my friends only have boys.. they just dont get it!

Susan said...

Yeah, I don't get why people feel the need to throw in their two cents about such things as how you dress your children. Hopefully they're not intending to be ugly. I received a few comments (not on my blog) about not dressing Petunia like a baby when she was younger. You know what I say? I dress her in the way that I BELIEVE best suits her sweet and spicy personality. Period.

Love today's pics. Too cute!

I sell many things at a church consignment -- 70% goes to me, and 30% goes to the youth ministry of the church. Other things get sold on ebay. Nicki told me about gymbofriends, but I haven't tried that yet. Hope to do that soon. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Erin said...

Wow - how hurtful! That is one of the fun things you get to do as a parent....getting to dress them the way YOU WANT while they are little! I love buying clothes for my girls more than I do for myself!!

Before you know it - Lucy and Annie will have their own opinions about what they want to wear....so you don't need another person adding to it!!! I hate when people make comments about me putting my girls in bows! argghh...

ummmm...and only 72 days from your goal...I think I might cry when it's over! I totally look forward to your updates each night!!

Anonymous said...

I would put them up for auction on your blog...goodness knows you have enough readers for it. People could bid in the comments...or maybe there would be a better way to do it. Otherwise, I have sold stuff on ebay and found it fine...but sort of a lot of work.

BTW, that is such an odd comment that person left. Am I the only one who doesn't get it? Very strange.

you go girl! (some people have no style and are threatened by those that do)
I had someone tell me in the span of 5 minutes that Isabel's outfit was "ridiculous" (it was an adorable MJ) and that Jackson was in need of a "big boy" haircut. I still get mad when I think about that girl!

I love, love the girls's fashionwears. If I have todlers I would love to buy some from you, I think some people don't dig these vintage fashions, nevertheless, they should not criticized other's people's fashion choices, especially blogged as anonymously,it's a matter of courtesy, and respect.

Wow-I thought your Annie looked so cute in her MJ dress that I wanted to buy my Vietnam Annie a second dress-and she is still wearing her first one, that she started wearing when she was still in diapers.
Also-I would say someone must have a lot of free time on their hands to comment on your kids clothes.
Be positive people!

Wow! I can't believe someone would comment about children's clothes!

You could always sell them on your blog. I do this every season and have regular readers who buy them.

Julie said...

I love what you put the girls in. Shame on whoever made that comment. I hop over to your blog everyday to see you pictures. Always brings a smile on my face. Just keep doing what you're doing and ignore the nasty comment.

I think auctioning the clothes off on your blog would be a great idea. They would be gone in a flash.

Carmen said...

I love the way you dress both girls...they look adorable all the time. I don't comment much, but I do check your blog everyday. I love your pictures....

Sara said...

People are ridiculous. I hope saying something on your blog helped you to clear the air and feel better -- you've certainly got all your loyal readers support! :) Your kids ARE THE MOST fashionably dressed and APPROPRIATELY dressed kids in blogland! I think the idea of posting on your blog is a good one. perhaps you could set up a "photo album" selling the items. It might be a lot of work so maybe when your busy season slows down...good luck with that!

Hey Kelly

If you want to sell some clothes- let me know.

My MIL lives there in Ft. Worth so you wouldn't even have to ship if you didn't want to- she could pick them up and ship to me.

Our daughter just turned 6 months today. Let me know...
We were given a ton of stuff when we brought her home but she has grown out of most of it.

Kelly,
I'm glad you addressed the comment. You always have such nice pictures and stories to share - I have no idea why anyone would comment negatively toward your blog in any way!
And everyone knows your girls are always adorable!

PS - I saw that your mom called you 'poopsie'. My husband calls me poopsie and not many people have heard of such a nickname! Funny stuff. :)

OMG, I hadn't seen that comment until you addressed it, good for you! :) I thought those pictures of Annie were/are ADORABLE! It's not like she's wearing heels or something!

I like the way you dress your girls so much - that when you mentioned you had two tubs of clothes to get rid of I thought "I wonder how much she'd take for those tubs" AND I DON'T EVEN HAVE KIDS YET! :p I just know whatever is in them, I'd love! Haha

Have a great day!

I would try the consignment for the clothes--an upper-end consignment shop would give you the most return, I think. Your little girls always look so precious. I just found out I am having a girl (after two boys) --hooray, girls clothing! -- so please announce if you are doing a Matilda Jane order in the future!

Rebecca said...

I don't comment often, but had to chime in on this one! I can't believe someone felt the need to post a critical comment like that. (Boy do I wish I had that much extra time in my day!) I didn't realize MJ clothes came with rules. My daughter is in a diaper, I guess I broke that rule too! Your girls always look SO, SO, SO darn cute and even have the most adorable pj's! Keep rockin' the MJ, Annie!

Is there somehwere in your area where you can donate to Kids/Women in Distress? Maybe donate to your church or something? That always feels good!!

i noticed the anon comment and when i read it, though it wasn't meant to be "rude" - my first thought was that this person was a little kooky. Honestly. "...the only time you can have a tummy or rolls." What the heck?? Anyway, your daughters are perfect and they always look amazing. She set some arbitrary rule for her children and now, apparently, thinks you should do the same. I don't see the logic. Whatever.

The Condreys said...

you should totally do rhea lana. it's a consignment thing. do they have that down there? my sister does it twice a year and makes a ton of money. and MJ looks precious on BOTH of your babies. :)

Kel said...

Your daughters look beautiful! They always do! They would look beautiful dressed in paperbags! That person is just jealous. It's just so strange that someone would be so offensive as to say anything even if they thought the clothes inappropriate... but I mean jeez it's not like she was in some spangly mini skirt and heels! They are kids clothes!!!

I thought how cute Annie looked in that dress! Good for you for saying something though! Show them up!

ps I wish we had MJ in the UK

I don't know if you'll get a chance to read my comment amongst the many you receive.

I participate in a "children's sale" that is held by a church. Check all churches in your community and ask about children's sales or Mom's Club. Usually you get a percentage of your sale and the church gets a percentage. What ever is left over either gets donated to good causes or you can claim back.

The sales usually happen once in the Spring and once in the Fall. I am able to get rid of the previous season's clothes and shop for the next two seasons. The money I make at the sale gets turn around and spent. So it's like an "even exchange" plus you don't accumulate a big inventory.

I've been doing this for years and it's a whole lot better than having to pack and ship one piece at a time. More like bins at a time.

Monique

Monique said...

p.s. I forgot to mention, you may see signs around your community that says "SALE - Gently used clothes, books, toys, etc." Usually I see a church name or Mom's Club sponsoring the sales.

My Sweet E's said...

I'm a first time signer, but I LOVE the way you dress both of the girls. I check in each morning to check out your pictures and read your post.

Like others have mentioned, I have found that I do best with selling my children's clothing through the semi annual consignment sales. Most consignment stores only give you 40% however in the semi annual ones you can earn up to 65%. It does take a little work, but it feels so good when you get that check. I pretty much invest what I earn right back into the next seasons wardrobe!

Keep up the great posts!

I love how you dress your girls! In fact, i often see that we buy alot of the same items--MJ has been one of my favorites since my daughter was 9 months old!

On the excess clothing issue, I usually try to find someone that I think would really like the clothes and pass them on. OF course i always keep some sentimental pieces but the bulk gets given away. Now that my financial situation has been changed, I may have to start doing the consigning thing as well. Let us know if you find out an easy way for this!

I think she rocked the MJ - why in the world would anyone bother to say something negative? Weird.

I also have a ton of old clothes, and I've been either consigning the good ones or giving them to a girlfriend with a one-year-old. It is a pain, but then I can shop more at my fave consignment store!

Best,

Boo on that person's weird comment about Annie's clothes! I've been following your blog for a while now and have always loved how you dress your impossibly adorable girls. They're always stylin'! :) I like to dress my 1-year old daugther the same way!

Do they have Mom2Mom sales in your area?? I am not sure how much work it actually entales, but I think you are able to set your price and all you have to pay is for the "booth" type thing.

Good Luck. It is always a little bittersweet getting rid of their clothing as they grow.

It's so crazy that anyone would post negatively about your kids' clothing! I can't wait to have little girls someday so I can take a fashion cue from you! My first thought when you said you had clothes to sell was also that I would love to take some, and I don't have kids yet! Keep dressing your precious girls just the way you like, you do a great job!!
