I ♥ Faces - Black and White

I am so excited about placing 4th in the kids contest last week. Thanks!! This week the theme at I ♥ Faces is black and white. This is my first time to enter the adult contest. I have a lot of black and white pictures but choosing was not hard for me this week. I immediately thought of both of these pictures. Be sure and check out the other awesome entries for this week's competition at I ♥ Faces!! I will work on a post about how I convert photos to black and white for this week since several people have asked lately. I stopped converting pictures all together for a while because I couldn't get any images looking the way that I wanted them to. But I have found a system that I like for now. I will say though, it is not going to be very helpful at all if you don't have Lightroom because I do about 95% of my editing in LR 2.0.

This is a woman from Hanoi on our trip to adopt Annie. She said that I could take her picture if I paid her $1. I would have paid her a lot more than that to take her picture. Doesn't she have an incredible face? I was and still am captivated by her.
I ♥ Faces - B&W

And this is my precious Lucy Goose. This is a picture from just last week. She was dead on for our daily picture. I didn't even have to bribe her or ask her to pose. My girl knows how to work it. Doesn't she?

Have you felt bamboo. It is so smooth and cool to the touch. Contrasted with the wrinkles and lines on the woman's face - nice job.

I really struggle with B&W photos. Mostly because I'm still learning how to use PS. I've been considering LR for awhile, if for anything, to store and organize my photos. Maybe I'll check it out tonight.

Love the old lady. Her face seems to tell a story.

Great shots. The woman reminds me of my grandmother; all wrinkly and sweet!

Lightroom is a great option (especially financially) for post processing. It is definitely a great option if Photoshop CS4 is out of the budget.

I love both of these. I love the detail in your adult picture...and then compare that to the smooth creamy face of your child photo... just beautiful! :)

As always, your photos are incredible and incredibly inspirational.

I love the photo you chose for your adult entry. I think you've posted it before because I remember being enamored with it - I could be wrong though. Maybe it was just a similar shot. Either way, I love both choices. You go girl!

You can capture what life is all about, by looking at both pictures, the old one experienced all of life joy, sorrow, endurance, and the young one, shows the wonders, the happiness and the innocent of lie, in the child 's eyes. Exceptional pictures, the old lady remind me so, so much of my grandmother, a strong resemblance.

Incredible entries! I love the texture of the lady's face - it's the perfect black and white image.

And can I just say Lucy Goose is total sweetness!!

Wow, I love the lighting in both of these. The woman's face has such depth and character. What stories she must have to tell! Your daughter is an angel!

I fully expect that incredible image of the woman from Hanoi to take first place. So incredible.

I still haven't gotten comfortable in LR...I use it for WB and exposure adjustments, but then I switch to PS.

I am positive your photo of the woman in Hanoi will place. The kid's category is so hard. You should be proud of last week's first place.

When you first posted the photo of the woman it made me wish so much I'd asked some Chinese adults to take their photos. I would have happily given them a dollar. I guess the next time we're in China!

Awesome photos! The lines in the elderly women's face tell such stories!

I guess I'm with the crowd in that I love both of these. I too wish I knew some of the stories from the Vietnamese woman--I think she could tell us all some fantastic tales. I also wonder how old she is. Possibly younger than one would think. As for the Goose, I'd love to hug her right now! Hugs and kisses, Lee Lee
