Long Day

We have not had a day like today in quite some time. So, it felt even more dramatic than it probably should have. Lucy was just off today. She was not herself starting at about noon. I took her to the Pottery Barn Kids concert at 11. She had a great time. Then we walked with some friends to eat Mexican food. This is when the day started going down hill. She started this nonstop whining. We ended up having to leave lunch because she would not stop. Lucy normally does really well in restaurants. We came home and she went straight down for a nap. I thought maybe she was tired even though she slept her normal 13 hours last night. She woke up okay from her nap, but after a short while, the whines came back and she was just overall not a happy camper. She seems to be feeling fine, from what I can tell - no fever, no runny nose, nothing. She went to bed at 7:30, which is really early for her lately. Anyway, it was just a hard day. I usually only write about the happy stuff on here and that is genuinely because she is a really really happy child. Most days are easy and fun and I really have nothing to complain about. I found myself losing it after a while. I could not stand the whining. I hope tomorrow is a better day. I hate to complain because I truly feel so blessed to spend everyday with this girl, even on the hard days. I just wanted you to know that not everyday is rosey.

Despite being way not herself today, I still managed to get some cute pictures. Usually being outside (especially with bubbles) cures anything in our house. It worked long enough for me to snap a few pics and then she was done - ready for bath and bed. Let's all pray she wakes up in a joyful mood because her Nana, Grandy, and Aunt Cayce all got her after she went to bed and are really excited to see her in the morning.

Does she look like a lady on a mission or what?

She kept laying down to watch the bubbles fly above her. Pretty darn cute.

I have been following your journey with your daughter since you went to Vietnam. I have posted a comment a few times, but not often. I just wanted to take the time to tell you how much I appreciate your look on life, your love for your family, your honest (even on the hard days...cause we all have them!), and your amazing pictures!! Lucy is absolutely adorable! We have also adopted a little girl from Vietnam last October ('07) and have been home for just 5 months. I can relate to so much of what you write about! Thanks for sharing!

Kelly, I have been following your blog since the fall of last year. I have never posted. I share the same sentiments as Michelle. I love your blog. I love your tenderness and openness that you are kind enough to express on your blog. Lucy is absolutely precious!! Thank you for taking the time to share your beautiful pictures and "real time" situations on this blog. It is respected and appreciated. Heather

Lucy and AM had a psychic connection day yesterday apparently. The whining - oh the whining. It is like nails on a chalkboard. How can kids who can barely speak perfect the whine SO WELL!?!? Plus we had a really gray and rainy day all day so we were totally stuck inside. I feel your pain in a big way. Its those days I half expect her to wake up sick because what else would explain the awful seemingly unended whining!?

:) Hope today is a better day.

Everyone has "off days" probably more so when you are two! She's still an adorable little kiddo!

I am saying growth spurt or the beginnings of the 2 year molars.

Whining STINKS! We have more screaming than whining but you want to run and jump off a bridge when it lasts all day. Both are equally bad, screaming just louder.

Hoping for a great weekend, whine free!

Hoping you're having a better, more typical Lucy day today! :)

Kelly--we are all entitled to a few OFF days!!! Sorry, I know it's hard when most days are so awesome! Please tell Nana and Grandy and Aunt C hi from all of us! Please do not overwork in the yard! The pics were great--love the laying down to watch the bubbles. Off to lunch with Myra. Wishing you much patience and love, LeeLee

Even on her worst days she's still a beautiful, amazing little kid! I hope today has been better. BTW, 13 hours per night??!!!! We've been getting all of 8.5 and a 30 minute nap out of Jack lately. Care to share;)

I love the last photo! And we have also found bubbles to cure the whines. Now if you could just share the secret to 13 hours of sleep.

Ah, I hope she isn't coming down with something. But even with a case of the whines, she is darned cute.

Lucy is so beautiful and I love seeing all of your pictures. You do so well taking them. Maybe one day I will learn. I wanted to tell you that we now have to watch the videos over and over because Parr loves watching lucy laugh and run. The one where you are asking her to dance, sing, etc.. he does whatever you ask also! Too cute! Maybe some day they can meet.

something must be in the air b/c lulu was off today as well. so rare for her. she would not let me put her down all day. making dinner was no fun. i am thinking a tooth or two may be the reason. who knows.
hope our girls feel better tomorrow.
i love the photo of lucy on her back looking up at the bubbles. awesome shot!

Love her outfit! Even the best of us have an off day, and Lucy was just not happy today. She is ever so cute, whiny or not. We all know that you love her dearly and it is refreshing to know that Lucy is normal! hehehehe!

You are lucky...my Lucy whines all the time! Perhaps this is the onset of the terrible twos...I hope not! I did find that it began a few months before she was actually two. Don't worry, it is manageable and gets easier as you can talk and reason with her more and more as her language continues to develop. She is so gorgeous and I am totally jealous of your weather...we are still in fleeces here in New England :(

Don't you just hate those days? I just had to comment and tell you we ALL have them. Love the pics. Even the whiney ones will be fond memories one day.

Your blog is fantastic. I can't wait til our Taiwan Lucy is home.

Whining totally stinks, but at least Lucy doesn't subject you to it regularly. See how I'm a "glass half full kind of girl?" She's wonderful and beautiful, even on her bad days. Hope to see you guys soon.
