State Fair and Birthday

Yesterday was my 29th birthday. One more year to go before I am 30!! I had an awesome birthday. Justin and I went out with some friends on Sunday night and I got to just relax yesterday. I actually took 2 naps, which is crazy for me because I can never fall asleep during the day. Justin helped Lucy make me the most adorable card. Loved it.

Today we went to the state fair. It was so much fun. The weather was gorgeous - a little warm at first, but cooled off and was perfect. I have written in the past about the CRAZY food that is at the fair, and this year did not disappoint. We ate at least a bite of all of this - corny dog, chicken tenders, fried banana pudding, tamales, french fries, fried pb&j, fried avocado chunks, cotton candy, and chicken fried bacon. I know you are throwing up, don't worry, I am as well. I am sure that the chicken fried bacon is really getting you. We would have never gotten that, but it was rated the #1 new fair food this year, so we had to try it. It was so gross we all took one bite and threw it out. Oh yeah, just so you don't think that it was just Justin and I eating all of this, we were there with Steve and Christy. We would each pick something and then share it. I get really grossed out by most of the food after a short while and cannot really stand more than a bite. Lucy was really only impressed with the corny dog and cotton candy. We will be going back again because we did not get to try the fried S'mores. Lucy rode two rides and won 2 prizes. She was so UNimpressed with the rides. One was a little boat ride and she sat completely still in her boat and never moved or changed expressions the entire time. We were all cracking up because it was so funny. She seemed to enjoy the swings a little more, but not much. She is so serious. She LOVED the petting zoo. It was definitely her favorite thing.

Pictures from our big afternoon.

Kelly--I KNOW you are staying up until I comment! Great pics--the food sounds utterly awful! Lucy is looking way too big. I take it that baby Ava wasn't subjected to the fair!!!! Sounds like a fun time was had by all. Our weather is perfect right now. Love it. Off to Nashville tomorrow--am looking forward to seeing those boys! Moses looks so much better that I can't even tell you. Give Lucy a big hug and kiss. Love and miss you guys tons! LeeLee

Chicken fried bacon? Seriously? That sounds...yucky.

I do love a corn dog, though. And cotton candy. :-)

The photo of Lucy with the chicken hat on her head is hysterical and adorable at the same time.

Happy birthday, Kelly. Sounds like you guys had big fun at the fair. I gotta admit that I was throwing up a little bit in my mouth reading about the food. I think I'll stick with Lucy's choices when it comes to eats. The photos are really cute. You know, when Lucy isn't smiling, she really reminds me a little of Petunia - similar features. So sorry we won't be seeing you guys this weekend.

Happy birthday Kelly! I agree....the food sounds positively awful...except maybe the banana pudding. I was just reading about the Texas State Fair in Southern Living last night. It sounds like a blast. We're looking forward to the Ok. State Fair this weekend.

Happy Birthday! Don't worry about being 29...I'm going to be shhhhh....forty soon, yuck.

I can't believe you got to pet the giraffe! We went a few years ago, and the giraffe was pushed back so you couldn't pet it! How cool!

We can't go to the fair this year...have a full corny dog for me if you go again. I only eat them at the fair, Fletcher's corny dogs are so good. You forgot to try that fried pineapple thing with the weirdly frozen stuff on top.

Happy Birthday! The fair looked like fun, the food....not so fun...especially if you are a vegetarian/vegan like our family! Lucy's hair looks SO cute in the pics!

Wow, you have a giraffe at your state fair?!?

Chicken fried bacon? Our state fair brags that it has the most food you can eat on a stick, which is, trust me, equally as gross!

And happy birthday! It was my birthday on the weekend too, but I exited the 20's....

I love normal state fair food, corn dogs, cotton candy, tenderloins, pork chops,
this year in Indiana they had fried twinkies, fried pickles, fried oreos and some other fried nastiness. Actually the guy selling the twinkies, asked me if I was ready to get my twink on. My response was not on your life buddy..
Love the chicken hat picture;)

I came across your blog while surfing in blog land. That was 2:00. It's now 4:40 in Little Rock. I read almost all of your posts back to October of '07. Then I realized that I am at work and should do something more productive! I was so intrigued by your posts and had to just keep reading to learn more and more. And then I read that you were actually from AR..... So that was really cool! Lucy is so beautiful and has the wardrobe that anyone would die for! What a lucky little lady! I will be adding you to my daily check, and feel free to check my blog out sometime too, although I am not nearly as dedicated as you. Happy blogging!
