Rough Week

Last Sunday Lucy started running a fever, no other symptoms, just a fever of about 102. She was playing and still having a lot of fun. Monday she still had the fever all day and felt fine. Lucy rarely gets a fever. She was not sleeping well. Tuesday morning she was miserable and still running a fever, it got up to 103.7. We went to the doctor even though I knew that they were going to tell me she just had a virus, which is exactly what they said. I felt better having her ears and lungs listened to though. Since yesterday mid morning, she has not had a fever any more, but she is still just not herself. I am praying that she feels better tomorrow and we can get back to our normal routine.

Lucy has been crying, whining, wimpering, or fussing nonstop for the past several days. I have had to hold her almost nonstop. I know that she has felt bad. I would have done anything to make her feel better. I have tried my hardest to stay sympathetic and patient with her. It has not been easy. To have a clinging, crying child attached to you for three days will really take it out of you, especially when she is having such a difficult time sleeping. We are both exhausted. She woke up around 7 times per night for three nights in a row and has resisted naps with all of her might. Justin has been home the past couple of days and done all that he could to help, but she has just wanted me. I have been thankful to have some help.

I hate it when I feel like an impatient and frustrated mom. She has just been so hard to figure out. She wants me to hold her, but then she tries to wiggle free. I put her down and she cries harder. She can't hold her eyes open but she absolutely refuses to let herself get some sleep. She doesn't want to eat anything and then she freaks out to get a snack. Ugh. I know she is sick and not herself. That doesn't make it easy. Even when she isn't sick, her very strong age 2 personality is shining through and I think we are all in for some crazy times. Again, I really hope she starts feeling like herself again in the morning. She did go to bed tonight at 6:45, which is crazy early for her.

Here is what I pray she does a lot of tonight........

Don't feel bad at all - it's frustrating when nothing you do works. I know exaclty what you mean - they want one thing, then the opposite, but that's not it, either. Mattix is the EXACT same way when he's sick. All you want is for you baby to feel better. It's tiring! I hope that Lucy starts to feel better soon and that your lives get back to normal! I know you're doing a great job, even if you do feel frustrated.

Poor baby girl. And mom! I hope she gets feeling better soon. And don't feel bad that you get tired of the cling and whine. It's natural because it wears you out too. I hope you all get back to normal soon.

Poor Lucy (and poor you). That is so tough to have a sick kid who isn't sleeping...the worst. I really hope you all get some rest tonight!

I hope she feels better soon, and hope you are able to get some sleep! - Don't feel bad... it's very normal to get frustrated when you can't figure out what to do to make her happy, and listening to the whining, etc. If I'm in those situations, I try to take a minute to close my eyes, take a few breaths and think about all the cute stuff my daughter does. :)

Sick babies are no fun - but I promise in a year you will appreciate the clinging because she will be such an independent soul. I feel bad for her. And for you. I just learned a new trick that I wish I would have known long ago....sometimes you can tell them "mommy has to go to time out" ...just long enough for those 10 relieving breathes....and then you are ready to go full force into overdrive mommy mode. Good luck!! I hope you are both better and well rested very soon!!

I hope everything gets back to normal soon - I know how exhausting it is to have a little one who isn't herself and can't respond the way you'd expect to any of the regular courses of action. And of course once you're exhausted, it makes it a hundred times harder to manage - so I'm so sorry for the both of you!!!

Poor Lucy...I hope she's feeling better really soon. I'm not looking forward to those days, especially when Brett's gone, too. I know you're doing a great job though...

Loved the pictures from the beach. Next time I come to Dallas, you'll have to show me some of your editing tricks!

Can I say, the constant holding, then the wiggle down, want back up is one of the hardest things for me to deal with. I sometimes don't want anything touching me and I will freak out. She will be better soon! But seriously, I hear ya! 2 year olds, trying to hold them all day, stinks. (I have to hold both kids at least an hour a day, I sometimes have a meltdown myself).

anyway, things will get back to normal as they always do and you will be back to fun!

Poor sweet baby, and poor mama!
Elia has had 7 colds in the last 4 months so I know exacly how you feel! It's awful. Do you have mai tai carrier? She should be small enough to still fit comfortably in it and at least you could get some things done. Put her in the stroller and wheel her around the neighborhood fresh air will make you both feel good.
I hope she's feeling better soon and you both get some much needed rest!

Ugh. I feel your pain. A sick kid is HARD. I think it is especially hard when they are normally predictable and easy going. Prayers are with you...and hope Miss Lucy feels better SOON!

Kelly,

Don't beat yourself up over being frustrated. It is frustrating. You're doing the very best you can. Having a sick child is very hard.

Hope she is better soon and back to your sweet Lucy.

It's no fun to be the frustrated mom, but it is normal! Don't feel guilty, just do your best, as I know you are. I hope you all get some rest and sleep soon.

Poor little babe. :( I hope she's feeling better and you all have gotten some sleep. A sick child can be so tiring and it's easy to feel guilty. But don't beat yourself up...in my opinion frustration is a very normal part of parenthood. Or at least I hope it is, or else I'm in big trouble! ;)

You definitely have my sympathy. Petunia is sometimes like that even when she isn't sick! And it's miserable -- for everyone.

I'm sorry Miss Lucy is feeling bad, and I hope she's as good as new really soon.

I hope your frustration (and your guilt feelings, which are completely normal) ease up over night. In the meantime, try not to beat yourself up, okay? I'll send up some prayers for more patience to be delivered to you.

oh poor baby and poor mommy! My daughter R gets fevers like that - practically no other symptoms except maybe whiny and a headache or something. They last for 3-4 days and then they're gone, no explanation. Hopefully Lucy is at the end of her virus and will be back to her cute perky self in no time!

Hope she's feeling better! Stay strong, Kelly! It's okay to break down (temporarily) when you're at the end of your rope!

I hope Lucy feels better soon and gets lots of sleep. Yeah and you too. It is hard when they are sick and can't get rest or comfort. I'm glad your having help. This always helps me to refresh when I am tired or need a break. But,that is hard too when all they want it mama. Hope all is back to normal soon.

Good for you for taking her to the doctor though. Thanh had a high fever months ago and it was scarlet fever, which has to be taken care of with antibiotics. Better to be told just a fever than to risk it.
I read the more recent post too, and I'm glad things are looking up. :)
