Changes!

Check out my new blog design. Here is the thing though, I want a custom header with some pictures in it and a quote, but I can't figure out how to get what I want. Any suggestions for custom headers are welcome. I don't want anything elaborate, just more personalized. I also need to widen the section that posts go in, so that my flickr photos fit without getting cut off. I don't know how to do that.
*UPDATE: Thanks to some help, I was able to adjust the width. Still working on the header.

The next part of this update needs your help. If you read this blog and are not listed in my sidebar of blogs I read and would like to be, drop me a line and I will get you added. I tried to get several of the ones I read updated, but I read SO many that I need your help to remind me to add you. If you are a wordpress user, make sure and leave your site address, because it doesn't show up in your profile. I will happily add blogs that would like to be added. And like I said, there are lots and lots that I already know of that are not up there and should be. I am slowly working on getting it all up to date.

It is going to look great in here when it is all done. I was inspired by my new blogging friends who just jumped right in and had their blogs looking a million times better than mine. I have thought about changing mine for a long time, but I was entirely too lazy to figure out how to do it.

I love the new design! Very fresh.

To change the width, it's hard to explain without knowing what your stylesheet looks like. But you'd need to go to the Template section of your blogger account, Edit HTML and then scroll down looking for where it has a "width" setting. For your main section it may say main, or body and the width is probably set in pixels. It will have like 400px. You just increase that number until you find the width you like.

It looks like yours may say "main-wrapper" before the line that says width. I hope that helps! You can also change the sidebar width by changing the width for "sidebar-wrapper". Hope that helps. I know it's hard to explain in a blog comment.

I LOVE the new look. I want to make mine look as new and fresh as everyone elses, but am not sure how to do that with Wordpress. Guess I need to find out. I should so hire someone. I digress, my blog is so on your list and thanks!

For your custom header you would need to find out what dimensions your picture would need to be, which should be in your template. Go into your photo editing program (I don't know what you have, I have Photoshop). Start a new file with your header dimensions. Put in the pictures and design how you want them to be.

Then host it at a photo site that will give you a permanent web address for your photo, like flickr. You'll need the address to put into your html template. You'll put the address in the section with all the details of your header, which should have your current header in the code.

I don't know if this explanation is confusing - I can see it all in my head but I think I'm doing a poor job of explaining it. I can help with the header if you need it since I think I made it more confusing, sorry.

By the way, I love the new look!!

Hi Kelly,

Another bloggy makeover! Looks great!

I just updated my blog as well. I use digiscrap items to make my header...if you'd like, I'd be more than happy to help you out. As far as expanding your post area, you may want to play with some of blogger's ready-made templates to see if they can widen it for you...or you can change measurements within html--which can be tricky.

I've added your blog to my site. I'd love for you to add mine if you visit.

My new camera (D40) should be here tomorrow and I'm so excited to finally get a big girl camera! I may get that lens (55-200) you suggested in the next few weeks. I'm sure the one it came with will tie me over until then.

Our website is www.journeytoourchild.blogspot.com. I agree that video is really gross. The hotels we usually stay at have plastic disposable cups, but now I know I won't use glass ones if they have them there.

Lucy is adorable and I love what you're doing with your photos. I'm trying to learn to take better pictures but I'm the learning curve is pretty steep for me. :)

Hi! I'm a faithful reader and fan of Lucy's beautiful hairbows. If you ever want some help with blog design or headers, I do blogs for charity. 100% of what people pay me for blog design goes towards projects for orphans in Taiwan. We just sent some money to help pay for the funeral of an infant that passed away unexpectedly at an orphanage. Right now... funds are going towards decorating and furnishing a new group home for teenagers.
