Today I took Lucy to get her picture made with Santa. Like an idiot, I forgot my camera. I bought one of the ones they took, but wish I had my own. We talk about Santa a lot. She recognizes him and says, "HO HO HO" in a VERY southern accent. The last HO is really drawn out. I am really going to try and catch it on video because it is one of her cutest tricks to date. She was so excited when she saw Santa. She was literally screaming HI! at him and would follow it up with a HO HO HO! Precious. When it got to be our turn, she marched halfway to Santa and realized she was a little scared. She started backing up slowly, trying to figure the best way outta there. I reassured her and set her on Santa's lap. She cried a little, but nothing major. I was really impressed. I had to take a picture of our copy of the picture because our scanner is screwed up. If this is not the best Santa you have ever seen, I want to see your Santa. Seriously, his hair and beard are real. Santa's identical twin apparently lives very close to us!
We had our allergist appointment on Wednesday. They actually don't think she has allergies. They took a swab from inside her nose and the doctor looked at it and said it doesn't look like allergies. We told him all of her symptoms and he thinks it is acid reflux. He said she has all of the classic signs. We started Prevacid that night and have had no throwing up at bedtime for three days now! She has coughed a bit the past couple of nights, but never enough to make her sick. He said it could take up to 2 weeks to see the full effect of the medicine, but hopefully it will work much quicker. I am really praying we have found a solution and she can be done with the night coughing and sickness. If in 4 weeks she is not showing significant improvement, they will proceed with the full blown allergy testing, but I really think this is going to be unnecessary.
Tomorrow Lucy is 16 months old. We are less than a month away from our family day. When I think back on our adoption, I can't believe that we have been through the process and had her home for a year. It is amazing how time has flown. I really can remember our trip to Vietnam so clearly. It seems like it was just the other day. She is just the greatest blessing we have ever known.

She is so precious! John and I still talk about our Vietnamese daughter, even though God's plan has put her many years away from us. I am so happy to hear that ya'll may have found a solution to her "problems". I've also heard that acid reflux is something that kids can easily grow out of...did the Dr. say anything about that??
Sounds like the doctors are on the right track! Hoping she's ALL better soon!
certainly is the BEST SANTA!!!
precious angel.
I don't know how knowledgable you are on food allergies, but you may be able to eliminate something like milk (casein) or wheat (gluten) and take her off the medicine.... email me for more info
That is an awesome Santa. And she is the perfect doll ... they should used that photo in their ads next year. :-)
I'm glad they don't think allergies are the culprit. If the prevacid doens't help, I have some info for you on one more thing you can ask your doctor about so let me know in a few weeks, ok? It sounds like it is already helping though!!
She was such a trooper with Santa and I am DYING to hear video so please spend all weekend doing nothing but that, ok?! :-)
That is an awesome Santa!
What a cutie!! I have reflux and I kept going to the allergist b/c of the hacking I would do at night-they finally put me on Aciphex and I do great. I never thought you would have reflux with only coughing symptoms-no pain in the upper gi-who knew?? Hope she stays well and it gets better!!
I love your house!
I had a feeling it was reflux way back with Lucy. My girls had it very bad and are now finally outgrowing it, and alot of what you said sounded like the girls. We have been to every specialist in the books for it. And thank god they are growing out of it before the big procedures come into the picture.
Prevacid worked wonders for the girls and they are still on it until 18 months when we will try to ween them off of it. We also think it is highly likely that their issues with dairy severely contributed to the reflux. On Soy milk they have never thrown up or spit up.
That Santa is too cute and the southern accent!! I haven't brought the girls. I am sure it will be meltdown city.
I am so, so glad that Lucy is doing better! I know that is been so miserable for all three of you. Maybe the dogs too. It upsets Ellie when Grace is upset.
I can't wait to visit Santa! I know that no Santa can compare to yours! I just hope that Grace does as well as Lucy.
I can't believe that our family day is coming up!! Isn't it crazy to think that this time last year they were drinking hot bottles and swinging high with Nanny V! We truly have so much to celebrate this year. Our southern belles are having their first Christmas at home!
Love to all and kisses to Lucy.
I hope that the prevacid makes her feel better! Reflux is misery.
She looks like a little doll :)
That picture is great! Glad to hear that Lucy's problems have been identified and hopefully fixed!
