Hairbows 101

I have had lots of questions about Lucy's hairbows recently since I have taken it upon myself to have a HUGE bow in her hair everyday. As far as where I get them, they have come from many different places. Here is what I look for - Big and they have to have an alligator clip (which is sometimes hard to find for the big bows). I am sure we will eventually have every color, but we are still working on that. I have gotten several at a shoe place in Little Rock called Shoe Connection - weird place to buy bows, I know. I was shocked when I found them. The rest are just from little baby boutiques around Dallas or Little Rock. Any time I am in a childrens store, I check out the selection. The best bows are in the boutique type stores.

Now, here is something that you all are going to love to know. I have a secret to help keep the bows in her hair. A lady at a children's store taught me this, so I can't take credit. Lucy's hair is VERY fine and soft, so they come out easily. To solve this problem, all you need is a hot glue gun - and no, you are not going to be gluing the bow in their hair!! Open the alligator clip as wide as you can, put a line of hot glue on the part of the clip attached to the bow. Hold open the clip while it dries. Now there is a little something to hold on to the hair so it won't slip out so easily. I promise that it does not get hair stuck in it or pull their hair. Lucy can still pull the bows out if she wants and it does not pull out any hair. However, if she will leave it alone, the bow will stay in its place! It is quite nifty.

As any parent of an internationally adopted child knows, you attract a lot of attention in public. We can not go anywhere without people constantly doting on Lucy and asking questions about her. So here is your WARNING: the big hair bows seem to attract even more attention. I know it is because they look so darn cute, but most people that walk by make a comment about how precious she is. People just stare, smile, and coo at her all of the time. In return, Lucy gives them the most serious look as if she is saying - "I know I am cute and now you are just annoying me." It makes me laugh every time we are out and about and she just glares at everyone. I spend a lot of time explaining that she is not like this at home and that she does know how to smile!

So here she is in her yellow bow. I hope my tip helps those of you with fine haired babies like me. I promise again that it does not stick to their hair or pull it out either. It just helps hold it in place.

It is so hard to get a picture of Lucy. She is constantly diving for the camera. I still think this one is really cute.

Doing my favorite thing in the world - chewing on my pink blankie.

Here I come Mom!

On the go, as usual.

I can't wait to do the glue thing to all Grace's bows!! You know I have been wondering how those stay in so well on Lucy. Thanks for the help.

She is such a precious baby! I've seen your blog before but didn't comment. What a cutie. I have a little girl about the same age. I don't do the really big bows -- but love the little ribbon flower ones. I get mine from ebay.

I am sure she gets deluged with gorgeous comments wherever she goes! I love the bows! I can't get Pineapple to keep anything in her hair anymore. Sigh.

We are all about the bows but Addy pulls them ALL OUT! I will definitely try the glue trick, that's brilliant! Right now we are sticking to hats and hair ties. haha. Have you tried the velcro clips at all? Do they work any better?

We love bows here too, just FTR for any other readers, they don't have the big ones, but Wal-Mart does have pretty hair bows that are similar to the ones in boutiques, they usually come in 2 or 3 packs--I switch them around to get the colors I want.

As always, she is adorable!

Mia and Cams are now giving people dirty looks if they come up to them. No smiles ever. And I think it is too funny!. Real Dirty looks.

I have no hot glue gun. I have no fun hair anything. I guess I need to start shopping for some cause they are just adorable on Lucy.

just found your site from Three Sons and a Princess....

thanks for the idea of keeping the bows in. I bet you could use that idea on all hair accessories... hair bands, hats...etc. I don't have any children, but will pass it on to all my friends!

I have to thank you. The glue trick works fabulously! Grace can now wear hairbows. Lucy is just darling in them and I can't wait to get Gracie some big ones! Lucy just can't help be darling though, with or without bows.
