Pumpkin Patch

The Arboretum has the most amazing pumpkin patch that I have ever seen. There are literally thousands of pumpkins. It is amazing. We have been several times because the weather has been so awesome and I just love it there. Lucy loves to be free to run wild outside. She is so happy and content when she is outside. All of the pictures are from the Arboretum.

She started saying apple the other day - clear as can be. She can also say Seashy now, which is what we call my youngest sister. I am working on all of her aunts and uncles names, but this is the only one she can say right now. I will work on getting some more talking video.

In my last post, I was asked twice about her stroller. It is a Bugaboo (the chameleon model). While I do love the stroller and it rides great and she seems to be really really comfortable in it, it was very expensive and I am not sure that it was worth quite as much as we paid for it. For starters, she HATES being confined, so getting her to spend that much time in it is very difficult. And second, it is kind of a pain breaking it down and setting it up. It isn't hard, just not nearly as convenient as several other strollers I have seen.

I get a ton of questions in the comments section and I rarely remember to answer. I have seen on other blogs where they did a Q & A type thing, so if you have a question, go ahead and ask and then I will write a post addressing the questions. The number one question I get is about Lucy's hairbows - the majority of them are from a shoe store in Little Rock called Shoe Connection. Totally random and they don't have a website, so unless you are in Little Rock, AR sometime soon, I am not much help in that department. As I have said before, I prefer big bows and they have to be on an alligator clip. Those are my only two requirements for bows. She is really good about leaving them in, mostly because her bangs are so long and annoying to her if they are not pinned back. Ever since we have had her, she has never had a problem with hats or bows. Lucky us!

In a side note, do any of you have sleeping problems? I have fought this for years. The past couple of weeks have been especially bad for me. I have been on pretty much any prescription sleep aide you can think of. Some work better than others, but after a while, they all seem to stop working. I finally got a decent night's sleep last night after starting a new medicine. I am trying acupuncture on Friday. The lady said that insomnia is not hard to treat and after 3-6 sessions, I should be sleeping much better. At this point, I am seriously willing to try anything and something that does not involve drugs sounds especially good. Have any of you tried acupuncture? I am pretty excited to try it out. Any sleep suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We have a Halloween party this Sunday, so be looking forward to more pictures of the pink flamingo soon. WOO HOO!

i tried acupuncture the month before my ivf cycle. they claim it really boost your chances of it being successful. well, it didn't work in that dept. but i really did love it.
after the session you will feel like you have had a 2 hour massage followed by a margarita. i almost didn't drive home the first time. i was just SO relaxed!
btw-i am having sleep issues for the first time in my life. it sucks!

Kelly, Love your blog. We adopted from Kaz in 04. Our son is amazing! Just wanted to ask you to follow up on the acupuncture and tell what you thought about it. I have a terrible time sleeping. The Ambien actually made me have some major "forgetfulness". I totally didnt remember that I was at my son's ball game a few days prior and asked my hubby why we missed his game! Oops!

I had some really bad sleep issues in the past. I was on Restoril for a long time and I did well with it. My mother is on Seroquel (spelling?) and she likes it.

Seth didn't seem to have sleep issues, but was always tired. It turns out he had sleep apnea and now sleeps with a machine that pumps air into his mouth/nose to keep his breath from stopping. His dad has it too and he would wake up when his breathing stopped, so he didn't realize that was what it was.

Lucy is just too cute!! I wish Sienna would leave her bows alone. At least she doesn't play with her piggies!

Such great pictures. I especially like the one of Lucy running by the fountain, and the one of her showing off her Vietnamese squat. (I can't remember if I told you that Petunia has started squatting, too.)

And, yeah, that is a BUNCH of pumpkins!

While I have never actually seen Lucy, it seems like of late in her pictures she is getting much bigger! She is beautiful!

Sorry I cannot help with your sleep issues.

Ooh! I have a question! Is your stroller a bugaboo? I don't see a logo so I'm not sure. Do you like it?

I think taking the meds is always very tempting because it works fast. But I think in the long run, it will make things worse. I found that 3 times/ week, 30 minutes each, of time in the nearest Cardio-room worked best.

As always, I love all the pics, and Lucy seems to know a lot about flowers already !

I for one would be very interested in a report on your accupuncture. I have always wanted to try it.

I have occasional cycles of insomnia. The OTC sleep aids help me fall asleep, but I usually end up waking in the middle of the night completely wide awake. The one thing that works for me is cardio at night. I know they always say DON'T exercise at night, but it drains me and then I sleep like a baby. I usually run/walk on the treadmill for about 45 minutes or so before I go to bed.

Lucy of course is precious as ever and those are some HUGE pumpkins surrounding her!

I hope the acupuncture works well - sleep issues are TORTURE!!!!!!

The pumpkin patch photos are gorgeous! I'm totally phobic about going into the pumpkin patches here so can you please talk me off the ledge? It's the black widows that freak me out. They are allll over those places. My stepmom got bit last week and is still having chest pains. I'm not realy phobic of spiders but the kind that kill little kids freak me out :-P

I just tried acupuncture for the first time this morning! I get really bad headaches and like you, was willing to try it if it meant I could stop drowing in medicine that didn't work. I loved it but know it will take a while before I see a big change. The doc I saw also mixed up some herbs for a tea as well. Perhaps they could come up with a homeopathic or herbal supplement for you too.... Good luck!

Adorable pictures! I love the fall and all the pumpkins, costumes, etc. I need to take some good outdoor pictures of my Lucy soon...before it gets way too cold here in Massachusetts!

As for sleep, is the issue getting to sleep or staying asleep? Have you ever tried a real sleep analysis at a sleep lab? I know that can seem weird, to have someone monitor you while you sleep, but they can tell you things like if you have an apnea or restless leg syndrome, etc. -- all things that can wake you up throughout the night. If you have problems getting to sleep in the first place because you have a lot running through your mind (which only gets harder when you're a parent!), you may want to try some type of cognitive therapy, yoga or meditation to learn how to focus your mind elsewhere. Anyway those are my thoughts!

Let's catch up soon.

Don't you just love the Dallas Arboretum? I take pictures of my daughter every year in the pumpkin patch, it's a tradition. I laughed at the famous "vietnam squat" right in the pumpkin patch. Too funny.

I love your blog, as I also live in the DFW area. Hope to run into you and Lucy someday. My 2yr old loves watching the Lucy videos. Can't wait for the flamingo pics.

Kelly, I am glad you are coming for the Baby Shower. You will get to meet Miss Caroline there. Samuel is going to be playing with friends but we are bringing Caroline. See you Friday! Amber

I love all the pumpkin patch photos! Lucy looks adorable amongst the sea of orange!

How cool that she is calling Seashy by name! I know that your sister just loved that. Lucy looks like such a big girl running around like that. I know I keep saying it but they are getting so big! Can you believe that it has been almost a year since Vietnam? Remember how they loved the lights on the trees? I can't wait to decorate, I just hope that Grace doesn't pull any trees over on her head this year.

Hey girl! Looks like you're getting a lot of practice in with your new camera...your pictures are so great!

As far as sleep issues, I know exactly what you're going through. With my crazy schedule, it is impossible to get on a routine, so I'm pretty much screwed. A lot of my insomnia is a result of anxiety - it gets bad every so often, and it is literally like I can't turn my brain off at night. So then the insomnia makes the anxiety worse, like a horrible cycle. When it gets really overwhelming, I usually go on anti-axiety meds for 3-6 months, which really helps with the sleep issues.

I really hope the acupuncture helps!
