Thank You

I want to say thank you to my Mom today. I swear I have the best mom in the world. I want to thank her for always being there for me and my sisters, even when we had done something wrong or disappointing. When I think about who I learned from to be a mom to Lucy, I believe I was taught by the best. I hope that I am able to raise my children so that we have the kind of relationship that I have with my mom. My mom is understanding, kind, compassionate, caring, patient, funny, and most of all loving. I talk to her at least three times a day - I am usually bugging her many more than just three times. I usually need her advice on almost anything. She raised me and my three sisters to all be caring people. I don't know how she did it, but she did and she did it well. I love you so much mom!! Thanks for everything.

I also want to thank Justin's mom. She is a TERRIFIC mom as well. You raised Justin to be such a great person. He is also kind, loving, passionate about life, a wonderful husband, and a great father. Thank you for doing such a great job with him. Thank you also for loving me as a member of your family. I love you too, June! Lucy is the luckiest girl to have such wonderful grandparents who love her so dearly.

Thank you to my sister, Holly, and my sister in law, Cayce, for being great moms as well. I look to you guys for advice since we are all in the same boat right now with little ones. And the same goes for my friends who are moms. I am always calling with silly questions about this and that regarding Lucy and someone always has the answer for me. I would be so lost without my friends and family. I love you all!!

And finally, thank you to my dearest love, Lucy, for making me a mom on this first Mother's Day for me. You are the light of our lives. You have changed us in ways we didn't know were possible and enriched our lives deeply. You have only been with us for 4.5 months, but we can't imagine life without you. God was so good to us when He blessed us with you. Thank you for being such a joy in our lives. I love you so much baby girl! As a present for Mother's Day Lucy got her first top tooth today.

I took Lucy to church with me today and left her in the nursery for the first time. I was a bit leary, but figured we should give it a try. She went right to the lady and didn't cry when I left, but when I returned an hour later, she was screaming bloody murder. The lady swears she had not been crying long, and I pray that is the case. She was really really upset and looked like she had been crying for a while. Our church gives you a pager when you drop off your child, so I assume they would have paged if it had been going on for too long. She stopped crying immediately when I got her, but went into hysterics in the car on the way home. I think she might have thought that I was not coming back. I sure do hope not. I just hate that she was so upset. Maybe it was the tooth?

What a great tribute to the the wonderful moms in your life!

That is so sad about the nursery experience!
I haven't left Piney in the church nursery alone yet because I am afraid that will happen too- she will go in without problem, but then when she realizes I am gone she might freak out. I think leaving for short intervals at a time and build up from there might be the answer.

I would suggest you leave her for short intervals as well. I had to leave Cams with the PT cause she just wasn't having it and came back to a hysterical baby. The OT suggested small bursts. Leave and go back 10 minutes, then 15, then 20.

Also, can you not take her into the service with you? We take the girls to church with us but it seems that other have the nursery. We don't have a nursery and it is expected to bring your children to mass with you. That might be the answer as well. 10 minutes in the nursery and the rest with you.

Congrats on the top tooth!!! Bring on the big people food!

Happy Mother's Day! Sorry that little Lucy had a fit in the nursery.

I agree with the others...try small intervals of time and always come back! Or maybe a special toy or blanket?

ps--thanks for the sweet comment on my last post. I hate to be such a downer..but it is good to vent sometimes.

Hey Kelly,
happy Mother's Day! Sorry to hear about Lucy's tough time. That happened with Jackson when I had to leave him a few weeks ago for a pharmacology course. It took us a few days to get back into our routine together - where he wanted ME, looked me in the eye, etc. I felt horrible. It's so tough on these little ones and leaving them, even for a short time, can bring back all the feelings of fear, loss, mistrust, etc. The previous commentors suggestions are right one in terms of small increments so they get comfortable knowing you'll be back.

What wonderful words for all the mothers in your life. And of course for sweet Lucy. :) Sorry about the nursery ordeal. Separation anxiety is definitely an issue at her age. Little bits here and there will help assure her that mama always comes back. :)

A beautiful post. All those moms and sisters (and daughters!) are sure lucky to have you in their lives, too.
